Kia Ora, Welcome to the Cashmere Target Shooting Club Website! Located in Cashmere, Christchurch, the Cashmere Target Shooting Club is one of New Zealand’s longest-standing smallbore rifle clubs. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned marksman, our club offers a safe, supportive, and social environment to enjoy the precision sport of target shooting. Our club members shoot and achieve at competitions both locally and around the country as affiliated members of Target Shooting New Zealand.
What Do We Do At Our Range?
Our shooting range is a 25-yard, 4-mound, indoor facility which caters for smallbore (.22) rimfire rifles only. The majority of shooting at the range (3 mounds) is in the “Prone” position, lying on the ground. We do not offer 3P at our range. We also have a bench rest mound used by club members and in competition.
What Is Smallbore Target Shooting?
Smallbore target shooting is a precision sport where competitors use .22 calibre rifles to shoot at stationary targets over set distances, typically 20 to 25 yards indoors. Shooters aim for accuracy and consistency, often in prone, kneeling, or standing positions. It’s a disciplined, focused sport that emphasises control, concentration, and technique. By nature, target shooting is a sport that can be enjoyed by all walks of life regardless of age, gender and physical ability.
Want to give target shooting a go?
We welcome anyone wanting to try the sport. The cost for a Casual Shooter is $20.00 per target (please bring cash as we do not have EFTPOS), which includes 13 shots. This includes all the necessary equipment, such as a rifle, ammunition, targets, and coaching. At the end of it all, you will get to take the card with the targets you shot on it home with you! No prior experience or license is needed. We suggest a minimum age of 12 years is a good age to start. Target shooting is a very safe sport, with safety measures vigorously enforced. We host our Casual Shoots on the evening of the first Monday of each month. Booking is essential as we have both limited space and time slots; please make contact via email cashmereshootinginfo@gmail.com or phone. Shooting starts at the club rooms at 7 pm or 8 pm, depending on which group you have been assigned to.
If on the day you are feeling unwell please stay home but do make contact in order to postpone for another time.
If you are looking to make a larger group booking, please visit our Groups Page.
